Nous avons passé 2 semaines merveilleuses dans ce gîte à Limoux ! Nous avons tout apprecié : sa localisation à quelques minutes du centre de Limoux tout en étant au milieu des pins et des vignes, sa superbe piscine privative et ses équipements tout comme à la maison (robot cuisinier, lave vaisselle, lave linge, etc...). En cadeau, une petite bouteille de blanquette des vignobles autour nous met directement dans le bain ! We stayed at Sunka ECO Gîtes for the last two weeks of August. We stayed in the larger Mokuzai Gîte which has space for 6 to 8 people. So where to start, firstly, let's mention the negatives.....Now the negatives are out of the way, let's talk about the positives. On arrival, we were met by Christian, who gave us a very warm welcome and speaks perfect english. Christian showed us around the Gîte, suggested some places to visit, and did the usual paperwork that is required on arrival. The only way to describe the Gîte is WOW! We have holidayed in France many times, always staying in a rental holiday Gîte, but none of them have been even close to this good, everything about it was perfect. The gîte is located just on the outer edge of Limoux, in a small sloping wooded area facing south with a fantastic view of the mountains. Its location gives you the perfect feel of isolation while still being within a few minutes drive of the town centre and a large supermarket. At the rear of the gîte is a large parking area, and at the front is a large decked terrace and the pool. As the front is south facing the decked area is a suntrap, and it is a lovely place just to sit and relax, staring out across to the mountains. The pool is lovely. It is warmed by the sun all day, and it is great to have a splash about or chill out on an inflatable just floating around. There is a big table on the terrace with 8 chairs and a large sun umbrella to have an evening meal. As the gîte is in a wooded area, there are a few woodland critters that can be found outside, which is great fun for the kids. The inside is as stunning as the outside. The gîte was spotless, with three decent sized bedrooms, two with double beds and one with two singles. The floors are solid wood, as are most of the walls. The living area is a really good size with a kitchen area, a lounge area, and another large table to eat at. There is also a utility room with a washing machine. All of the appliances are really good quality, with an electric oven, microwave, gas hob, and dishwasher in the kitchen. During our first week, there was a heat wave, with the temperatures in the day hitting the low 40s and in the evening not getting much below 30 degrees. Despite these temperatures, the inside of the gîte remained comfortable. Although due to the heat, we didn't do a lot of sightseeing in the first week and spent a lot of time chilling in the pool. There is a huge amount of things to do around Limoux.. The Med is only an hour and a half away for a day out at the beach. Toulouse is an hour north for a day out shopping, and of course, there is the beautiful medieval city of Carcassonne 30 mins up the road. Heading south, there are the Pyrenees, with lots of castles, animal parks, places to hike, mountain bike, and climb. In summery the Sunka ECO gîtes are a fantastic place to have a family holiday in a fantastic and beautiful area of France, there is so much more positive stuff I could write about the gîte, but it would take too long. Christian, Christelle, and their family have created something very special here, and I would recommend to anyone to go and stay at the Sunka ECO gîtes. I really hope we get to stay there again one day. A couple of suggestions that I would make to Christian and Christelle for the future would be 1) To create a Gîte information pack, with the instructions for each of the appliances (the oven is much more sophisticated than our simple gas oven we use at home so we had to do some googling to work out how to use it)  maybe have a copy in a few different languages. 2) I would maybe some fly sceens on the doors and windows so that in the evenings when the sun has set moths that are attracted to the lights inside can't get in. And lastly, 3) Don't make the mistake that other gîte owners where we have stayed have made, and that is not keeping up with maintenance. If something breaks, fix it ASAP. There was nothing broken or worn out when we were staying there, and I think that is part of what makes the Sunka Gîtes better than the rest.

The Sunka Ecogite/Ecolodge is lovely and has everything you need for an enjoyable family holiday. We loved dining on the deck and cooling off in the private pool, which is free of nasty chemicals. It has a pleasant open plan indoor living/dining space. The bathroom has a large shower and two wash hand basins. It is in a relaxing rural setting surrounded by trees yet is conveniently close to the shops of the old town of Limoux and the modern part. It has private parking and is a great base from which to explore the historical sites of 'Cathar Country', such as the medieval city of Carcassone, Rennes-le-Chateau, Rennes-les-Baines and Montsegur. It is just over an hour from the coast if you would like a day trip to the beach and a swim in the Mediterranean Sea or to give the children a fun-filled day at an aqua park, such as in Narbonne. Christian is an excellent host. He gave my family and I a warm welcome when we stayed in July 2023. He went above and beyond by presenting us on arrival with a brochure he had produced listing tourist attractions tailor made especially for my family based on the type of places and activities I had said we were interested in. He had also gathered many tourist attraction leaflets written in English especially for us. Awaiting us in the ecolodge was a bowl full of fresh local fruit plus a bottle of the local specialty wine - the world’s oldest wine - Blanquette de Limoux, chilling in the fridge. He provided fans to keep us cool during the heatwave and made sure that everything was to our satisfaction. When Christian found out we had a late evening flight to return home, he kindly gave us permission to stay on later at the ecolodge. I highly recommend Christian as a host/proprietor and staying at the Sunka Ecogites/Ecolodges as a place to relax and unwind with many attractions, restaurants and activities within close proximity.
